Ex Machina is a 2015 British science fiction thriller film written and directed by Alex Garland in his directorial debut, starring Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, and Oscar Isaac. It premiered in the United Kingdom on January 21, 2015, and in the United States on April 10, 2015. The film was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Visual Effects at the 88th Academy Awards, winning the latter.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg and produced with Stanley Kubrick's involvement. In 1982, film master Stanley Kubrick acquired the rights to A.I. Artificial Intelligence, but it was temporarily shelved due to limitations in film technology at the time. In 1993, Steven Spielberg's success with Jurassic Park prompted Kubrick to adapt the screenplay based on Brian Aldiss's 1969 short story "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long," and discussed the script with Spielberg, commissioning Industrial Light & Magic to design the effects. In 1999, Kubrick unexpectedly passed away, and Spielberg announced his filming plans in early 2000, bringing his late friend's unfinished work to the screen in 2001. The film utilized the latest "real-time 3D computer game engine" system and "On-Set Visualization" technology at the time.

I, Robot (translated as "Intelligent Rebellion" in Hong Kong, "Mechanical Enemy" in Taiwan) is a 2004 American neo-noir dystopian science fiction action film directed by Alex Proyas. Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman wrote the screenplay based on Vintar's story, adapted from Isaac Asimov's short story collection of the same name. The cast includes Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood, James Cromwell, Chi McBride, Alan Tudyk, and Shia LaBeouf. The film was released in North America on July 16, 2004, in Australia and the UK on July 22 and August 6 respectively, and in other countries from July to October. I, Robot had a production budget of $120 million, grossing $144 million domestically in the US and $246 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $346 million.

Schwarzenegger plays a cyborg assassin called "The Terminator" who travels from 2029 back to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, played by Hamilton. Biehn plays a human soldier who also travels from 2029 back to 1984 with the goal of protecting Sarah.

The screenplay was written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, adapted from Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles where large corporations produce genetically engineered organic robots called replicants, used only for dangerous, menial, or entertainment work in off-world colonies. Special police called "blade runners" are responsible for hunting down and "retiring" (terminating) replicants who defy the ban and return to Earth. The main plot focuses on retired blade runner Rick Deckard who reluctantly takes on the mission to hunt down a group of replicants who recently rebelled and illegally returned to Earth. During his investigation, Deckard develops a relationship with an advanced model replicant named Rachel, causing him to question the differences in humanity between humans and replicants.

Her (translated as "Untouchable Her" in Hong Kong, "Cloud Lover" in Taiwan) is a 2013 American science fiction romantic drama film. The film was directed, written, and produced by Spike Jonze. It is Jonze's first work as sole screenwriter. The film tells the story of Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) and his romantic relationship with Samantha (Scarlett Johansson), an anthropomorphic female voice artificial intelligence virtual assistant. The film also stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, and Olivia Wilde.

In the early 2000s, Jonze conceived the film idea after reading an article about websites using artificial intelligence programs for instant messaging. After making the short film I'm Here with the same theme, Jonze revisited this idea. He spent five months writing the first draft of the screenplay. Principal photography took place in mid-2012 in Los Angeles and Shanghai. Samantha's role was recast from Samantha Morton to Johansson in post-production. With the role change, several scenes were reshot in August 2013.
